Sharmin Rahman

Intermediate Associate, Immigration Services

Executive summary

Sharmin was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2013 and has over 10 years of experience in Canadian immigration law. Her practice at BDO Law LLP includes representing both corporate clients and individual applicants in strategizing to find the right, most cost-effective, solution for their immigration needs. Her practice is particularly rooted in assisting employers in the technology, energy, mining, entertainment, and professional services industries.

An underlying component of Sharmin’s work is a belief that Canadian economic progress is dependent on facilitating globalized industries, businesses, and societies.

Sharmin is deeply interested in the ways in which Canadian immigration policy can better match the needs of her clients. She is also a vocal advocate for various immigration reforms through the Canadian Bar Association’s Immigration Section while being committed to EDI efforts as they intersect with immigration law.

In addition to being an active member of the Canadian Bar Association’s Immigration Section’s Anti-Racism Committee, Sharmin’s Master’s thesis examined the systemic biases applicants face in spousal sponsorship applications.
