The organization

Entegrus keeps Southwestern Ontario connected, operating and maintaining electricity distribution systems to more than 63,000 customers in 17 communities. In addition to delivering reliable power, the utility company provides administrative, customer care, billing, and collection services. 

As the organization expanded, its complexity grew, and so did the need for streamlined operations and smarter processes. Recognizing that outdated workflows were limiting growth and complicating day-to-day activities, Entegrus turned to BDO to help them power efficiency.

The challenge

Following a merger, Entegrus faced growing operational hurdles that threatened both efficiency and long-term growth. Its legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) and HR systems were outdated and complex, and they could no longer keep pace with the demands of a modern utility provider. These needs translated into several key operational and technological challenges that required a comprehensive, tailored solution.

Inefficient reporting
The legacy system generated only Microsoft Word reports, requiring Entegrus to manually build Excel reports from scratch.
Data silos
Critical data was scattered across systems, limiting visibility and preventing access to real-time information.
Limited system knowledge
The system was not widely supported within the industry, leaving Entegrus dependent on its backlogged vendor to resolve issues.
Issues with scalability
Outdated inventory processes and lack of modern tools like barcoding limited efficiency and growth.
Inconsistent time reporting
Employees used a mix of system-based and manual Excel tracking, complicating workforce management.

Recognizing these obstacles, Entegrus knew incremental fixes would not be enough.
