Accessibility Progress Report 2025 highlights

Governance and culture

  • BDO Canada formally expanded its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program to include Accessibility—giving it the recognition it deserves and underscoring the importance of this work. While Accessibility has long been a foundational pillar of inclusion at BDO, this formal integration brings it together under a unified DEIA framework across the firm.
  • The firm launched mandatory annual accessibility training for all employees nationwide.
  • BDO Canada was recognized as a Purple Star Employer by Western University for its commitment to inclusive hiring and equitable opportunities for persons with disabilities.
  • Over 3,000 employees participated in the session “Neuroinclusion Includes You: Unlock Strengths and Build an Inclusive Workplace” as part of the firm's 2025 SkillUP Summit.

Employment

  • The firm enhanced its accommodation process by introducing a tracking system for requests and regular HR-led check-ins with employees.
  • Recruitment and onboarding practices were updated to encourage early disclosure of accommodation needs and ensure support from day one.
  • Online learning standards were revised to include considerations for neurodivergent learners, based on employee feedback.

Digital and communication accessibility

  • Weekly accessibility reviews of BDO's external website were implemented to maintain inclusive design as new content is added.
  • The firm is transitioning from PDFs to web-based content for easier navigation and improved accessibility.
  • Firm-wide communications, templates, and reports (including the Annual Sustainability Report) were reviewed for screen reader compatibility and alternative formats were offered.
  • Event registration forms now include the option to request accommodations, supported by a new internal process.

Programs, services, and procurement

  • Client feedback on the accessibility of programs and services is now monitored and analyzed to identify trends and guide improvements.
  • Accessibility considerations were embedded into all real estate decisions in 2024.
  • The firm initiated steps to better integrate supplier diversity into vendor selection processes, with further development planned for 2025-2026.
"The significant progress we've made toward our Accessibility Plan targets is a true testament to the firm's values and our commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. We are going a step further, embedding accessibility more deeply into our policies, systems, and everyday practices so all employees and clients can fully participate and experience a barrier-free BDO."
