Toronto, ON – BDO Canada, a leading provider of professional services, released its Annual Sustainability Report, Delivering meaningful impact together.
The report highlights BDO’s progress across its environmental, social and governance priorities, and the steps the firm is taking to embed sustainability into its strategy, operations, risk management and decision-making. It also demonstrates how BDO’s own sustainability journey informs the practical support it provides to clients navigating evolving sustainability expectations, risks and opportunities.
BDO reached several important milestones, including validation of its near-term and net-zero emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), achieving ISO 27001 certification, advancing supplier engagement and waste diversion initiatives, and further integrating climate-related considerations into its enterprise risk management processes.
Annual Sustainability Report highlights
Environmental action
- BDO’s near-term and net-zero emissions reduction targets were validated by SBTi, covering Scope 1, Scope 2 and specified Scope 3 emissions and providing a science-aligned foundation for the firm’s long-term climate planning. - BDO’s first waste diversion pilot achieved 100% landfill diversion, redirecting 24.87 tonnes of materials and avoiding 20.89 tonnes of CO₂e emissions through donation and recycling. The initiative also generated $24,777 in in-kind charitable donations supporting six community organizations across Alberta and Ontario.

- BDO recorded more than 67,000 learning completions across digital and live learning, while 73% of the firm participated in at least one voluntary learning program.
- BDO continued to advance diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility initiatives, including accessibility training, enhancements to recruitment and onboarding practices, and progress toward its goal of becoming a fully accessible firm by 2040.
Governance and responsible innovation
- BDO achieved ISO 27001 certification, the global benchmark for information security best practices, reinforcing the firm’s approach to protecting sensitive client and firm information.
- The firm introduced its Responsible Artificial Intelligence Policy and mandatory training focused on professional judgment, data privacy and confidentiality, bias awareness, intellectual property and compliance with applicable laws and professional standards.
