BDO Canada highlights milestones and objectives in Annual Sustainability Report

Toronto (ON) – BDO Canada released its annual sustainability report today, showcasing its efforts to act as a force for good.

BDO’s Annual Sustainability Report: Inspiring Action highlights the firm’s progress, accomplishments, and future goals in key areas of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

"As we unveil our 2023 sustainability report, I am proud of the progress we have made on our ESG objectives and the possibilities we have ignited. We strive to be recognized as a top-tier firm with a clearly differentiated service offering that bends the arc of possibility for our people, our clients, and our firm. Our ambitions must be sustainable—and in 2023, we achieved significant milestones towards our ESG goals."
Bruno Suppa, Chief Executive Officer of BDO Canada

A core area where BDO made progress was in its environmental initiatives. In continuing its journey to net-zero emissions by 2050, the firm improved and streamlined the data collection process of its carbon footprint. The enhancements will yield more accurate emissions information and bring the firm closer to realizing its reduction targets.

BDO is also proud to highlight the following 2023 accomplishments:

  • Recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and one of Atlantic Canada’s Best Places to Work.
  • Invested almost $2.5 million in supporting communities by sponsoring and donating to national and local causes. This is an increase of 18.1% compared to 2022.
  • Increased its investment in innovation by 53% over 2022.
  • Launched a five-year Accessibility Plan, which shares the steps the firm is taking to remove and reduce barriers to accessibility for persons with disabilities at BDO.
  • Reaffirmed its commitment to excellence and maintaining strong, productive relationships with regulators through the release of its 2023 Audit Quality Report.

Looking forward, increasing the uptake of the firm’s self-identification tool remains an important priority. This will allow BDO to report on additional indicators of diversity, such as gender identity and identification with its diversity, equity, and inclusion pillars: Women, Persons with Disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, Racialized Groups, and Pride at BDO.
