Melissa Fournier is a Partner in BDO Canada’s Risk Advisory Services practice, based in Ottawa.

Melissa is passionate about helping organizations navigate complexity with clarity and confidence. She works closely with leaders to understand their strategic priorities, assess risk in context, and identify practical opportunities to strengthen governance, oversight, and performance.

With over a decade of professional experience, Melissa is a trusted advisor in internal audit, enterprise risk management, governance reviews, independent third-party assessments, and risk and controls advisory. She has led numerous engagements focused on organizational governance, risk appetite, internal control effectiveness, and the design and assessment of risk management programs. Her industry expertise spans not-for-profit organizations, Indigenous Nations and the public sector at federal, provincial and municipal levels where she helps leaders clarify priorities, strengthen accountability, and enhance decision-making.

Melissa also leads BDO Canada’s Women Driving Growth initiative nationally, advancing programs that create meaningful connections among women leaders, clients, and professionals across Canada.

 

Melissa is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) and a Quality Assessor Certificate from the Institute of Internal Auditors. She brings extensive knowledge of leading governance, risk, and internal audit frameworks, including the COSO Internal Control Framework, the COSO Enterprise Risk Management Framework, the IIA International Professional Practices Framework, and the Global Internal Audit Standards.
