Emily Heinrich, CPA

Executive summary
Emily is a Partner and the Leader of BDO Canada’s U.S. Corporate Tax practice. Her focus areas include accounting for income taxes under IFRS, U.S. GAAP, and ASPE; identifying U.S. tax opportunities and exposures, including state tax nexus studies; and providing comprehensive U.S. and cross-border tax advisory, consulting, and compliance services to companies at various stages of growth. She has worked with clients in many industries, including manufacturing, technology, consumer products, professional services, medical equipment and services, mining, and forestry products. Emily brings more than 20 years of experience in U.S. and cross-border tax.
Although now a proud Canadian and dedicated Vancouverite, she originally grew up in Florida and spent the early part of her career living and working in the United States. After moving to Canada, she found both a new home and a career focus in supporting the U.S. tax needs of Canadian businesses.
Emily is a recognized people leader, known for her excellence in mentorship and coaching and is the Pride at BDO Pillar Lead on BDO Canada’s National Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Advisory Council. Her leadership perspectives have been featured in Authority Magazine as part of its Leading with Heart series, highlighting her views on values-based leadership and advancing women in leadership. Emily was also profiled in the Snapshot series for the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC), where she discussed professional experience, career path, and the importance of authenticity in leadership and work.
She currently volunteers her time with Sierra Club Canada Foundation and previously served with Pride at Work Canada and the Oregon Society of CPAs.
