A bright future lies ahead for Sandy Bay

Case study

For the past few years we've been working with the Sandy Bay First Nation community in Manitoba. Sandy Bay was looking for assistance on a number of initiatives including housing, infrastructure, economic development and financial management. Our professionals worked with the community to identify and secure government funding opportunities and develop new revenue streams that supported their goals. The change has been inspiring - Sandy Bay is now a prosperous community with plans to build a multiplex and provide additional opportunities for its residents – we're proud to be a part of their journey.

This video offers a unique perspective into our relationship with Sandy Bay and shows what is possible when people work together toward a common goal.

BDO is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our clients from coast to coast. We work closely with Aboriginal organizations across Canada, which has given us a unique perspective into the challenges facing Aboriginal communities and an innate understanding of the need to uphold tradition while working toward socio-economic prosperity.

Empowering tomorrow's talent

BDO also believes in empowering the talent of tomorrow and has partnered with the University of Ottawa's Telfer School of Management to provide a scholarship for an aboriginal student with the desire to improve the socio-economic well-being of their community. In addition to monetary assistance, the scholarship includes a four-month paid internship at select BDO offices across Canada, ensuring that the student is able to supplement learning with real-world experience.

How we can help

From accounting and auditing to economic development and operational optimization, we're able to draw upon our vast breadth of knowledge to support Aboriginal communities on a number of complex issues and find ways to meet goals without sacrificing traditions. We recognize that complicated tax regulations and financial ecosystems can create difficult operating environments for Aboriginal organizations and use our years of hands-on experience to create sustainable solutions that improve operational and financial effectiveness through all stages of growth.
