The scene opens on black and white footage of a rocky shoreline. Slow, reflective music plays in the background that remains through the duration of the video. Jonathan Chasle, BDO’s Head of Assurance Quality and Professional Standards, speaks over the music.
“What is quality?” he asks.
The scene cuts to a Jonathan looking over the Victoria Harbour. The shot is still black and white. He continues speaking over the shot.
“Quality is not an act,” he says.
The shot cuts to a frame-up of two white boats docked in the harbour, still black and white. The man continues over the shot, “It’s a habit.”
The shot cuts to another black and white frame-up of one boat in the harbour, captured to show some of the buildings in the background, including one with a large Canadian flag.
Jonathan continues “It’s the outcome of years...”
The shot cuts to Jonathan again. He’s standing at the harbour staring out to sea. The shot is still black and white, except for the man’s scarf, which has shades of red that pop off the screen. He continues over the shot: “...spent focused on ethics, consistency, excellence.”
The shot cuts to a very quick black and white tracking the his legs as he’s walking along the harbourfront, and then to another black and white tracking shot of an orchard.
The shot cuts back to Jonathan walking past the Empress Hotel in Victoria. It’s still black and white, but the red scarf is visible. He continues speaking: “When I think about what drives us at BDO...”
The shot switches to frame him up from the back as he looks at the Parliament building. He continues speaking: “...audit quality is always at the centre. It’s the foundation of everything we do.”
The shot cuts back to framing Jonathan from the front as he finishes the thought by saying: “And it’s the heartbeat of who we are.”
The shot cuts to a black and white montage of homes and buildings around Victoria, then back to Jonathan walking past those buildings. Again, the red in his scarf is popping off the screen.
“It’s where innovation happens,” he says, still over the shot. “It’s where collaboration thrives.”
The shot cuts to a montage of Market Square in Victoria, showcasing the area’s classic architecture. Jonathan continues speaking over the shot: “This is the challenge my team sets themselves every day.”
The shot cuts to under a covered walkway in Market Square where he is walking. Again, the red in his scarf is popping off the otherwise black and white shot.
“At BDO, audit quality is more than a process,” he says.
Jonathan now is walking into a coffee house called Saint Cecilia.
“It’s a commitment,” he continues.
The shot switches to a close-up of an espresso being made, and another shot of the espresso being poured.
“Of that,” he concludes, still speaking over the shot, “you can be assured.”
The shot cuts to a close-up of Jonathan doing some work on his laptop at one of the tables in the coffee house, and then to a bird’s-eye view from inside the coffee house where he sits.
The URL www.bdo.ca/auditquality fades up in white type as the image fades to black. As the image fades, the “auditquality” in the URL turns red.
The URL is replaced by a white BDO logo as the music fades out.
