Executive summary

Hetal is a Partner with BDO Canada's International & Transaction Tax Practice. He leads the Alberta International Tax Practice and is the Greater Toronto Area Transaction Tax Leader. He has extensive experience in corporate and international tax, having worked in Calgary, Toronto, and New York. While in New York, Hetal assisted Canadian multinational corporations on their global tax strategy and provided advice to non-Canadian companies about their Canadian in-bound investment strategy in the context of acquisitions, financing and domestic reorganizations.

Hetal has extensive experience in the implementation of cross-border financing structures, establishment of optimal holding company structures, restructuring of foreign operations including liquidations, wind-ups and mergers, cash repatriation, and intellectual property licensing. He also provides services in foreign affiliate reporting and compliance matters including the preparation of surplus accounts.

Hetal has published various articles for the Federated Press, the CPA Magazine, Owner Manager Taxation and various other publications.

Hetal has assisted a number of international infrastructure clients in their acquisition of green field and secondary infrastructure projects (i.e., roads, hospitals, etc.) in Canada. Services provided review of financial models prepared by external lenders, provision of advice on acquisition structuring, tax considerations on repatriation of profits, restructuring ownership and divesture of projects.

Hetal advises clients in a wide range of industries, assisting them in structuring their Canadian investments, managing their foreign investments, due diligence and tax structuring as well as various tax compliance services with a particular emphasis on assisting private equity funds on tax diligence and structuring.
