Max Brault, A Developer Of The Accessible Canada Act, To Lead BDO Canada Accessibility Consulting

October 03, 2019

Toronto, October 3, 2019―Max Brault has a vision: To build community by showing the world that Canadians with disabilities contribute to society―and to successful business ventures.

Brault's business venture with BDO Canada began in September 2019, leading consulting on accessibility for the firm. Brault and BDO will work together to identify accessibility issues in Canada―for corporations, governments, and non-governmental agencies―and to provide strategic solutions to address them.

BDO Canada also worked with Brault to document the development of Bill C-81, the Accessible Canada Act (the Act), in a series of 5-minute videos available on YouTube and in a documentary that will be released on December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

A person with a disability and a bilingual legislation and policy leader with almost 20 years of experience focused on employment equity and the advancement of workplace accessibility, Brault helped to guide the federal government toward progressive accessibility legislation.

Brault helped to develop the Accessible Canada Act. He was involved in:

  • Development of the strategy and implementation plan to help the federal public service be ready to meet the requirements of the Act
  • Development of a hub of strategic advice on the Act
  • Development of standards to help organizations identify, remove, and prevent barriers to accessibility in key areas
  • Development and implementation of an outreach initiative to engage people with disabilities in the development of the Act and the implementation strategy for Government of Canada organizations
  • Development of persons with disabilities champions and chairs' committee report

A recipient of the Golden Jubilee Medal and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, Brault has also represented persons with disabilities at the UN convention on accessibility.

“BDO becomes a national leader in helping organizations meet the requirements of the Accessible Canada Act and in realizing the benefits of a diverse and inclusive workforce, with Max's contributions to our team,” notes Harry Lake, a partner with BDO Consulting (Strategy and Operations).
