Dentons and BDO Co-Engagement - GDPR Services 2018

September 13, 2018

GDPR brings legal compliance and technological capacity together.

On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force introducing an unprecedented level of data protection obligations for businesses worldwide having commercial activities in Europe. If you offer products or service in the European Union, you are subject to the GDPR. Violations can lead to fines of up to 4% of global revenue or 20 million € (approx. $30.7M CAD), whichever is higher.

The GDPR focuses on organizations having appropriate data protection governance in place with emphasis on accountability: companies have to fulfill their obligations and demonstrate that they do so.

This emphasis on governance brings together the two sides of meeting GDPR requirements: having the right policies, consent and service agreements to comply and having the right technological structure to implement the policies, consent forms and adopted service agreements. This is why BDO Canada LLP (BDO) and Dentons partnered to offer an integrated solution. In one contract, you get advice on GDPR compliance in relation to all your objectives:

  1. Together BDO and Dentons assess your GDPR Readiness both in relation to your policies and to your technological infrastructure. Together, we identify gaps and make integrated recommendations resulting in an updated legal policy, including the technological advice for launching it.
  2. We provide Data Discovery and Classification both through BDO reviewing your databases and Dentons legal analysis of the status of the data (personal or not, more or less sensitive, subject to higher or lower restrictions).
  3. This allows you to meet GDPR requirements for Records of Data Processing with Data Mapping and Information Asset Inventory.
  4. It also allows you to achieve GDPR compliance in one process where the technological solutions to implement the legal solutions are developed together.

Both BDO and Dentons have significant experience and solid teams for handling GDPR compliance. Organizations impacted by the GDPR will need to act fast — Dentons and BDO can help. Together we provide an efficient and integrated process.
