"Balanced Budget 2016"

On February 16, 2016, Finance Minister Michael de Jong presented the province’s fourth successive balanced budget. With steady and stable growth, this budget lays out a fiscal game plan to maintain a balanced budget through to the election expected next year and beyond. 

The surplus reported for the 2015-16 fiscal year is $377 million, which is higher than the surplus of $284 million predicted in last year’s budget. Surpluses are projected to continue, with a surplus of $264 million for the 2016-17 fiscal year and $287 million for 2017-18. The provincial economy is expected to grow by 2.4% in 2016 and 2.3% in 2017.
