British Columbia Budget Report 2015

February 17, 2015

On February 17, 2015, Finance Minister Michael de Jong presented the province’s third successive balanced budget. With strategic investments to maintain public services, encourage growth in key sectors, and support families and those in need, this budget lays out a fiscal game plan to maintain a balanced budget.

The surplus reported for the 2014-15 fiscal year is $879 million, which is higher than the surplus of $184 million predicted in last year’s budget, due in part to the impact of recording one-time taxation revenues and ICBC net income results in the year. Surpluses are projected to continue, with a surplus of $284 million for the 2015-16 fiscal year and $376 million for 2016-17.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Surplus of $879 million forecast for 2014-15
  • Surplus of $284 million forecast for 2015-16
  • No changes announced to personal and corporate tax rates
  • Temporary top personal tax bracket to expire on schedule
