On October 27, 2015, the Honourable Joe Ceci, President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance, presented his first budget and the first budget of Alberta's NDP government. In the budget presented by the former government, a deficit of $5 billion was predicted for the 2015-16 fiscal year. Today's budget indicates that the financial condition of the province has not improved as the revised deficit forecasted for 2015-16 is now $6.1 billion. The projected deficit for 2016-17 is $5.4 billion. The province predicts that they will balance the books in the 2019-20 fiscal year.
The Minister stated that today's budget has three priorities:stabilizing public services, setting out a plan to balance the budget and taking action on jobs and diversification.
