SR&ED Opportunities for Dairy Farmers

BDO can help with the process to educate producers like you on the SR&ED program and help you meet compliance criteria using the systems you already have in place. This will eliminate the need to create a new layer of burdensome administration.

Some producers initiate SR&ED projects on their own and are able to derive and implement advancements from their experimentation. In these cases, BDO will guide you through the claim process and prepare your SR&ED claim. We can also consult with you on methods to improve the quality of your projects so that you gain more knowledge from the project, as well as the ITC benefit from the SR&ED program.

The types of projects or activities that can qualify include:

• Trials performed to improve reproduction and/or reduce complications during calving
• Trials that affect calf health and disease, or improve milk production at first lactation
• Trials that impact milk production, including equipment modifications, animal comfort, and disease
• Investigation of animal data to determine the cause of a problem, or to seek new insight
• Development of new or custom on-farm equipment
• Feed trials with new ingredients, or with specific goals in mind
• Cropping changes or trials to invoke a change in health, nutrition, milk production, or process efficiency
