Foreign Help for Local Farms

September 21, 2017

A dwindling number of Canadian farmers has forced many employers to rely on temporary foreign workers to fill labour shortages. If you are considering hiring foreign help, there are several programs available to assist you in finding the help you need.

  • The Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) allows Canadian farm operators in specific commodities to temporarily hire skilled help from Mexico and the Caribbean for up to eight months each year.
  • Agricultural Stream is open to all citizens and allows for 24-month work permits
