John is BDO's Edmonton office market leader with over 30 years of Canadian and international assurance and business advisory experience. He is also the leader of BDO's Alberta Manufacturing and Distribution industry team and a part of the firm's national manufacturing industry group.
John has a proven track record in providing high quality service to large and mid-size privately held and public companies, public sector organizations, and Indigenous groups. Before joining BDO in 2013, he was an assurance partner at a Big Four firm. John's significant industry experience includes manufacturing and distribution, construction, retail, financial institutions, public sector, not-for-profit, and Indigenous organizations
John specializes in assurance services related to financial statements prepared in accordance with ASPE, IFRS, PSAS, and Canadian not-for-profit accounting standards. He also has considerable experience with complex business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, startups or expansions, divestitures, privatizations, business restructurings, litigation and arbitration support matters, complex financings, and family succession planning.
John's international business experience includes four years working in the emerging Warsaw, Poland economy when he helped open a new professional services office for a Big Four assurance and advisory firm in 1990.
John has served as an expert on litigation and arbitration support engagements, typically working closely with the client and their representative law firm. His broad assurance experience allows him to be very adaptable to many types of engagements across various industries. His experience includes preparing expert reports and providing expert witness testimony.
