Sylvain Caron joined the BDO Financial Advisory Services Group as an analyst in 2005. Prior to that, he worked as an auditor for a small accounting firm in Montréal.
Sylvain is bilingual (French and English) and is located in our Montréal office. Through his years of experiences, Sylvain has developed his skills and his judgement as an expert in business valuation, due diligence and forensic accounting.
His business valuation experience in numerous different industries has provided Sylvain with the opportunity to work with companies in Canada and abroad who are looking to either sell or purchase companies or who wish to reorganize companies or their capital structure for transactions, financial reporting and/or litigation support purposes.
Sylvain acquired experiences in valuation for financial reporting including valuation of intangible assets and purchase price allocation. He also acts as an expert with audit team to help them with any issues related to fair value calculation.
Over the last years, Sylvain has acted as an expert in supporting private, public and institutional investors in their negotiating and due diligence process including analysis of the proposed transaction on different aspects mostly finance, accounting and tax. Moreover, his experiences also include human resources, information systems and some environmental, technical, operational and commercial aspects.
As an advisor to small and medium enterprises, Sylvain has worked closely with entrepreneurs in their preparation of business plans, financial and strategic planning, operational reorganization and financial control reviews. He also support client and lawyer in various litigation file such as quantification of damage, claims and professional liabilities.
Sylvain has had the opportunity to study in Belgium and work outside the city of Montréal in locations such as Northern Quebec (with the Cree Nations), in other Canadian provinces and in the United States.
Sylvain holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and is a CA. He is also a student member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (CBV). He teaches the basics of business valuation to young entrepreneurs for the organization SAJE Montréal Métro and acted as speaker for Federated Press on due diligence subject.
