Western Canada, its universities and its CA School of Business (CASB)

CA School of Business
The CASB program is a professional, competency based course catered specifically for CA students living in:
- Alberta
- British Columbia
- Manitoba
- Northwest Territories
- Nunavut
- Saskatchewan
- Yukon Territory
Through the use of theoretical and practical application CASB is designed to provide its students with the key tasks, abilities and roles which are typical of a successful CA. The program is divided into 7 modules, each comprised of:
- 10 weeks online training
- 3 day face-to-face interactive session
- 1 day evaluation session
In particular, CASB makes extensive use of role playing as it is believed that developing applicable on-the-job behaviors is critical to the success of future CA’s. Similarly evaluation in each module is also intended to emulate a real life scenario. Therefore, grades typically found in the school setting are not used by CASB. Instead, the program evaluates students based on four components consisting of tasks, knowledge retention, pervasive competencies and application of knowledge. A Competency with Distinction is the highest level a student can achieve, and may only attain this by having a positive assessment on each of the four components.
To be admitted into the Institute of Chartered Accountants, students must successfully complete the CASB program and a 30-month practical experience requirement.
