UFE

National CA Student Programs

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) is responsible for promoting the accounting profession; and enforcing the highest standards of qualification, education and experience for its approximately 70,100 CAs and 8,500 students.

Even though each Provincial and Territorial Institute/Ordre of Chartered Accountant is legally responsible for the CA qualification within their jurisdiction, the CICA still works in collaboration with the Institutes/Ordre to closely monitor the consistency of the qualification process and the adherence of national standards.

For students wishing to pursue a career in Chartered Accountancy, pre-qualification education is a requirement, assessed and delivered regionally through four systems across Canada. These include:

BDO's Writers Weigh In

Indo Saini - Toronto

I appreciated all the support BDO provided during the UFE process. The paid time to study helped take the financial stress away. The prep course leading up to the exam helped design a personal strategy for passing. The best asset available through the exam process is a UFE buddy that you can lean on for advice and support. My buddy was always willing to listen to my problems and teach me his tricks for success. Though the process is stressful, the balance of studying and relaxing during the summer was a great experience with all the support I was given.

Trevor Campbell - Vancouver

BDO provided a great deal of UFE prep training during the 6 months leading up to the UFE. The centrally marked exams and webexes were very informative and helpful, and the UFE mentor program and buddy system that are in place were added bonuses. And the fact that BDO puts all of it's candidates through the Densmore training program shows their commitment to their students. I can honestly say that without BDO's support, I would have been ill-prepared to write the UFE.

UFE Honour Roll 2005

I have to admit that the summer I spent studying for the UFE was very relaxing. I went into the UFE study process confident and focused. But I could not have done it without using the resources that BDO supplied for me. Having a study buddy, former writers correcting some practice questions, and just having the time off (paid) helped tremendously. Also, being from a rural office, I received a balanced workload of audit and small business engagements, which I used in conjunction with the knowledge gained from the CASB program. Going through the process with BDO's support definitely paid off for me - and when I look at how well our writers do compared to national averages, it does not surprise me.

Trina Connell - Lindsay

UFE Honour Roll 2005

The BDO client base and training program provide invaluable experience in preparing for the UFE. The work experience gained within my office was key to my success. By working in a small office I was exposed to a wide range of engagements from audit to personal tax. The direct interaction with clients has built a strong foundation of looking at the big picture to ensure the clients overall needs are met.

In addition, the firm wide paid training program allowed for a low key summer without the additional stress due to financial pressures. With a steady and consistent study schedule my study partner and I were able to have short study days and weekends off. This allowed for relaxing days by the lake to keep everything in perspective and stay focused on the goal ~ passing the UFE.

Shawn Vogel - Guelph
Gold Medalist 2007

BDO provided invaluable support to me with the buddy system. They offered helpful guidance and assistance at every stage of the study and exam process. After talking to several people who had gone through the process themselves, I was able to devise a study plan that complemented my way of learning and would be the most effective. I am pleased with the support I received from the entire office and appreciate that I was not pressured to work extra hours during the busy season leading up to the SOA and UFE. The five weeks (paid) time off leading up to the exam were critical in providing me with the necessary time to study without feeling overly stressed. I was given more than enough time to be well prepared. With BDO’s support, I remained confident throughout the process, as well as going into – and coming out of – the UFE.
