BDO partners with FCC for Drive Away Hunger
September 13, 2010
TORONTO: BDO has partnered with Farm Credit Canada (FCC) and the annual FCC Drive Away Hunger program for the third consecutive year. For 2010, the firm is committed to raising 100,000 lbs of food, surpassing its 2009 collection numbers by more than 10%. Due to its significant agricultural client base and business efforts, it is exceedingly important to BDO to support applicable causes that recognize and/or benefit rural Canada.
When asked about the firm’s commitment, Keith Farlinger, CEO of BDO, responded: “It is always a tremendous opportunity and responsibility to assist the communities in which we live. Therefore, I am very proud to announce the participation of all BDO offices across Canada in 2010 in the FCC Drive Away Hunger program. Our firm is pleased to continue working with Farm Credit Canada, that has dedicated its resources to this cause.”
Jim Snyder, BDO’s Director of Agricultural Practice Development, added: “I am very proud of our BDO colleagues from urban and rural markets for their willingness to share our good fortune with the less fortunate among us. The relationship that we enjoy with FCC partners across Canada is a natural platform from which to launch another successful FCC Drive Away Hunger program. We are pleased to support the organization in its endeavour.”
From September 20 to October 15, local BDO offices across Canada will collect food and monetary donations. According to Food Banks Canada, over 794,000 hungry Canadians relied on food banks each month last year ― a statistic that increased more in one year than ever previously. FCC Drive Away Hunger, as a result, is an increasingly important program.
FCC President and CEO, Greg Stewart, stated: “FCC employees are partnering with local schools, community groups, residents, food banks, and businesses like BDO to reduce hunger in Canada. This year’s tours will take place in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan, as well as a sixth in Regina, the home of FCC’s corporate office. We’re excited to have BDO on board to help us achieve our goal to collect one million pounds of food for food banks nationwide.” Community members who live beyond the tour stops can make contributions at any of FCC’s 100 offices across the country, as well as any BDO office.
