BDO’s FCC Drive Away Hunger results

November 5, 2010

TORONTO: BDO recently partnered with Farm Credit Canada for the FCC Drive Away Hunger program, which raises food and monetary donations for Canadian food banks. In the past two successful years of participating, the national accounting and advisory firm had raised over 100,000 lbs of food in total. BDO ambitiously committed to raising the same amount again ― but in  2010 alone.

At the end of this year’s run, the firm surpassed its goal, raising 156,725.99 lbs across its offices over Drive Away Hunger’s four-week span. BDO attributes its success to its various collection events ― including pancake breakfasts, barbecues, and chili cook-offs. It also extended the drive internally for another week to raise more donations from staff and community members, totaling 163,924.98 lbs.

BDO’s charitable efforts coincided with the introduction of its new vision and values. Keith Farlinger, CEO of the Canadian firm, stated: “I am extremely proud of our final donation numbers, which exemplify BDO’s investment in our corporate social responsibility to give back to our communities. We are engaged to make a difference through valued relationships with our people, clients and
communities.”

Jim Snyder, BDO’s Director of Agricultural Practice Development, said:“We are genuinely proud of the commitment to our communities shown by FCC and BDO families [… that have] seen Drive Away Hunger grow into a nation-wide campaign to reach out to the less fortunate among us.”

FCC President and CEO, Greg Stewart, added: “This year’s FCC Drive Away Hunger program was a great success. People from across Canada stepped up in a big way to help bring food to those who need it ― the generosity we’ve seen has been truly overwhelming. FCC would like to thank FCC Drive Away Hunger partners and all Canadians who continue to rally together to support this program.”

Farm Credit Canada raised 1.7 million lbs of food across the country in 2010. The growing need for food banks in Canada makes FCC Drive Away Hunger a particularly important initiative.
