BDO results from FCC Drive Away Hunger

October 27, 2011

TORONTO: As part of the annual Drive Away Hunger program, BDO recently spent four weeks collecting donations for Canadian food banks in partnership with Farm Credit Canada (FCC). The national accounting and advisory firm participates each year in the campaign, and raised over 260,000 lbs of food from 2008 to 2010.

This year, BDO surpassed its nationwide goal of 180,000 lbs to reach 311,895 lbs in total. Its offices took creative initiatives to accomplish this task, hosting various breakfasts, barbecues, and chili contest events for the public in exchange for monetary or food donations from participants. Numerous donations were also made internally across the firm during the September 19 to October 14 campaign duration.

Keith Farlinger, CEO of BDO Canada LLP, stated: “Each year that we participate in the Drive Away Hunger campaign, I am increasingly impressed by the efforts made across our firm, which are clearly reflected in our final donation numbers. The BDO team is committed to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility to help fellow Canadians who really need it.”

Jim Snyder, BDO Director of Agriculture Practice Development, added: “Drive Away Hunger is a great example of how one person can turn a small, charitable idea into a nationwide cause. We are honoured to be partners with Farm Credit Canada and, together, help make a positive impact on our many local communities.”

Greg Stewart, FCC President and CEO, said: “We are very grateful to the many Canadians who participate in the Drive Away Hunger campaign and help fill shelves in hundreds of food banks across the country. We credit the success of the program to the overwhelming support of our FCC Drive Away Hunger partners and the involvement of individuals and communities across the country.”

Farm Credit Canada raised 2.4 million lbs of food across the country in 2011. The growing need for food banks in Canada continues to reinforce the significance of causes like the FCC Drive Away Hunger initiative.
