BDO partners with FCC Drive Away Hunger

CHATHAM: BDO recently partnered with Farm Credit Canada (FCC) and the annual FCC Drive Away Hunger campaign for the second consecutive year. Due to its significant client base in the agricultural area, BDO is particularly connected to applicable causes that benefit rural Canada. For 2009, the firm committed to raising 50,000 pounds of food for the campaign, which would have doubled the amount raised the previous year.

From September 14 to October 16, BDO’s 30 participating local offices across Canada collected food and monetary donations in support of food banks in their regions. Combined, they ultimately surpassed the firm’s goal with a total of 109,123.87 lbs in donations altogether, including 20,000 lbs donated to Food Banks Canada.

Keith Farlinger, BDO’s Chief Executive Officer, stated, “I am thrilled with the outcome of our firm’s efforts for this important campaign and wish to thank each individual who contributed to the cause! We hope these donations will help the many people in need.”

FCC Drive Away Hunger is an increasingly important campaign with over 700,000 Canadians relying on food banks each month. The “tractor trailer tours” for the 2009 edition launched on September 11 in Chatham, Ontario, crossing communities from Alberta, to New Brunswick. Donators could alternatively drop off food or monetary contributions for the campaign to participating BDO offices.
